Specimen/Type: Spinal fluid

Container/Tube: Sterile screw-capped tubes; numbered as collected

Specimen Volume: 4 mL (1 mL in each tube)

Specimen Minimum Volume: 2 mL (0.5 mL in each tube)

Collection Instructions: Performed per provider protocol. Unless otherwise specified, the tests will be done on Tube # as stated:

Tube #1: glucose, protein

Tube #2: culture, gram stain (order Culture, Spinal Fluid separately)

Tube #3: cell count, differential

Tube #4: other testing

Refrigerated (preferred) ≤2 days/Ambient ≤1 hour

Turn around time is critical; deliver to laboratory ASAP.
