Specimen Requirements
Specimen Type: Plasma or serum
Container/Tube:
Preferred Plasma: Heparin, plain or gel separator
Acceptable Plasma: EDTA, NaF
Serum: Clot, plain, activator or gel separator
Specimen Volume: 0.5 mL
Specimen Minimum Volume: 0.2 mL
Collection Instructions:
1. Fasting glucose is drawn.
2. A loading dose (100 grams) of glucose is administered to the patient.
3. A glucose blood sample is drawn 1, hour, 2 hours and 3 hours post dose.
4. Separate plasma/serum from cells as soon as possible after collection.
4. Follow laboratory procedure.
