Specimen Requirements

Specimen Type: Skin scraping
Container/Tube: Closed sterile container or slide in closed container
Collection Instructions:
1. Place a drop of mineral oil on a scalpel blade. Allow some oil to flow from the blade onto the papule.
2. Scrape vigorously to remove the papule. There should be flecks of blood in the oil.
3. Transfer the scraped material in oil onto the labeled glass slide. Add additional oil if needed. Stir the material, crushing any clumps.
4. Cover slip the slide with a clean slide and fasten down to transport. Rubber bands work well.

5. Transport to the laboratory in a clean, dry slide container.
