Specimen Requirements
Submit only 1 of the following specimens, container/tube: cobas® PCR Media tube (stabilized)
Collection Instructions:
1. Urine: prior to sampling, the patient should not have urinated for at least one hour
a. Have patient collect the first 10-50 mL of the initial urine stream into a sterile cup
b. Using the pipette provided with the kit, transfer the urine into the cobas® PCR Media tube. The correct fill area is indicated on the tube by the two black lines
c. Tightly re-cap the PCR media tube and mix by inverting 5 times
d. Transport refrigerated
2. Female Endocervical swab specimen
a. Use any swab in stock to remove excess mucus from the cervical os and DISCARD the swab. (If using a single swab kit, use any swab in stock to remove mucus and discard).
b. Using the single swab kit, Insert the provided swab into the endocervical canal, gently rotate the swab 5 times in one direction
c. Carefully remove the swab and break off at scored line into the cobas® PCR Media transport tube
d. Tightly re-cap the PCR media tube
e. Transport refrigerated
f. ANY TRANSPORT MEDIA RECEIVED WITH BOTH SWABS WILL BE REJECTED
3. Female Vaginal swab specimen
a. Insert the provided swab about 5 cm into the vaginal opening. Gently turn the swab for about 30 seconds while rubbing the swab against the walls of the vagina
b. Carefully remove the swab and break off into the cobas® PCR Media transport tube
c. Tightly re-cap the PCR media tube
d. Transport refrigerated
