Specimen Requirements
Specimen Type: Plasma or serum
Container/Tube:
Plasma: Lithium heparin, sodium heparin, plain or gel separator, or EDTA
Serum: Clot, plain, activator, or gel separator
Specimen Volume: 0.5 mL
Specimen Minimum Volume: 0.3 mL
Collection Instructions:
1. Trough samples should be collected immediately before the next dose.
2. Peak levels should be collected 1/2 hour post IV dose (admin. time 1 hour) or 1 hour post IM dose.
Specimen Transport Temperature
Refrigerated (preferred) up to 7 days/Frozen up to 1 month
Note: If testing will be delayed, remove plasma or serum from the separator, red blood cells, or clot.
Reference Values
0.0-1.9 mcg/mL
Critical Value: ≥12.0 mcg/mL
