Specimen Requirements

Specimen Type: Urine, 24 hour

Container/Tube: Collection container (available from Rice Lab)

Submission Container: Plastic conical or transport tube

Specimen Volume: 5 mL

Specimen Minimum Volume: 0.2 mL

Collection Instructions:

1. No preservative is required ( 20 mL 6N HCL may be used as an alternative).

2. Patient should void and discard sample.

3. Collect all urine voided for the next 24 hours, including the final specimen voided at the end of the collection period.

4. Measure and record urine volume, date and time collected, and collection interval.

5. Aliquot 5 mL of well mixed specimen into a transport tube.
