Specimen Requirements

Specimen Type: Vaginal discharge

Container/Tube: Amnisure collection kit

Collection Instructions: 

1.  Collection (performed by Physician or RN on OB)

2.  With patient lying flat on her back, insert a sterile polyester swab (the polyester tip should not touch anything prior to insertion) 2-3 inches into the vagina for 1 minute to allow absorption of fluid into the swab.

3.  Place patient swab into vial and rinse in solvent by rotating for 1 minute.

4.  Remove swab and dispose of swab.

5.  Label blue capped solvent vial with patient information, record date /time of collection and collector.

6.  Place vial back into original plastic pouch. 

7.  Transport to Lab ASAP for testing. (Needs to arrive within 4 hours room temp (preferred) or < 6 hours refrigerated of collection for testing).
