Specimen Requirements
Specimen Type: Plasma
Container/Tube: Plain Sodium fluoride, NaF (grey top)
Submission Container/Tube: Transport tube
Specimen Volume: 1 mL
Specimen Minimum Volume: 0.5 mL
Collection Instructions:
1. Venous specimens should be obtained without the use of a tourniquet or immediately after the tourniquet has been applied.
2. Patients should avoid exercise of the hand or arm immediately before and during the procedure.
3. Place tubes in an ice slurry immediately after collection.
4. Centrifuge the specimen as soon after collection as possible and immediately remove the plasma from the red blood cells.
Additional Information: Gel separator tube is not acceptable.
